The Rise of ISIS

Everybody on each side of the political spectrum loves to blame the rise of ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) on each other. The right media throws the blame at the Obama Administration, and the left media throws the blame at the Bush Administration. But do you know who to really blame?

Before I go on, let me tell you about the little known terrorist organization called ISI (Islamic State of Iraq). You see while we were still boots on ground, and knee deep in the thick of it. We had many little insurgent terrorist groups all over Iraq. ISI was one of these little insurgent group. Most of us who were in Northern Iraq considered AQI (Al-Qaeda in Iraq) and others to be a bigger threat.

In 2009 on my third tour to the land of sand, heat, and misery I was deployed to Northern Iraq. At that time we were only a few years from handing Iraq off to the Iraqi government so they could fend for themselves. I can tell you that many of us knew the Iraqis were far from being ready, but that wasn't our decision to make. Most of the missions I was on lead us from one IED to another. The MO (modus operandi) to these IEDs at the time was that of AQI. All the components, commercial or homemade explosives led to AQI. However once and while you'd come across caches displaying proudly the flag of the ISI. The picture above is one I took of the ISI flag from a cache the Iraqi Army found early 2010.

In 2009 ISI was contained. Most of their operatives were either in prison or dead. The only way they found any sustenance to survive was by leeching on the backs of other better funded terrorist cells.

You see the rise of ISIS was due to the power vacuum created by us withdrawing way too soon. The fault is from the White House on down. The fault is with Bush for even suggesting we should withdrawal and give the Iraqis control way too soon. The fault is with Obama for using the withdrawal of troops from Iraq as one of his campaign promises, and ignoring the heed of the Pentagon when they yelled from the tops of their lungs that Iraq wasn't ready.

This little known terrorist group ISI allied itself with other terror groups and became the threat of ISIS that commits the genocide of non believers everyday, and has wreaked havoc world wide. Would ISIS even exist if we stayed in Iraq? I can honestly say that no one would have ever heard of them if we stayed.
